Let’s Dance!
In the summer of 2020, husband and wife team Sharyn Korey and Steve Whipple started leading outdoor dance classes in their Sunset Park neighborhood. They teamed up with Claire Wampler, also a dance teacher in Sunset Park, and hosted weekly classes with live music.
Through this experience, Sharyn and Steve realized there was demand in the neighborhood for a space for kids and adults of all ages to enjoy movement and music. We’re lucky to partner with US Kodokan (4108 8th Avenue) and Circle Dance (5010 8th Ave) so we can have access to spaces with barres, mirrors, and sprung floors.
We can't wait to dance with you!
Sharyn performed with Richmond Ballet before earning a degree in International Studies from Middlebury College. An ABT certified instructor, she currently teaches ballet and pointe at the Mark Morris Dance Center and Hofstra University. She is also the Rehearsal Director for the Westchester Ballet Company production of The Nutcracker and the co-founder of NACHMO, an annual choreography festival open to all.
Steve is a native of Tokyo, Japan, and currently lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. He tours internationally as the bassist for Postmodern Jukebox and the Queens Cartoonists, and maintains a busy performing schedule around the city. He founded Live in Sunset Park, a weekly summer concert series held in Sunset Park (the actual park). In a past life, he was Visiting Professor at Universidad San Francisco de Quito (Quito, Ecuador). He enjoys sharing spring rolls from Ba Xuyen with his son.
